The holidays are coming quickly, and the volunteers at the Broadway Market know it. All signals show this is a time for real optimism at the Buffalo culinary icon that has had its ups and downs through the years. Why?
First, there’s the promise of new vendors, at least for one weekend. A Christmas Fair is scheduled for Nov. 23 and 24 – Thanksgiving weekend – when local creators of wine, cider, chili, salsa, jams, jellies and crafts will join with the traditional market to convey the pleasures of the holiday to all.
And there’s a ray of hope: backing from a new Western New Yorker that has led to an off-site event to promote the Christmas Fair. “The Broadway Market Comes to the Statler Towers” is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 15 in the lobby of the Statler, 107 Delaware Ave. The sponsor is the BSC Group, run by Bashar Issa, the developer involved in the restoration of the hotel.
