The Peace Bridge, what could have been

The existing Peace Bridge is visually appealing. It’s not drop dead OMG gorgeous or anything like that, but still great to look at. The bridge opened in 1927 and was designed by designed by Edward P. Lupfer of Buffalo. It’s here. It’s not going anywhere. But did you ever wonder what could have been?

Dana Saylor, a local historian, artist, and preservationist, posted a photo of an alternate design for the Peace Bridge on Instagram. I never really thought about if there was ever any different plans for the bridge. Apparently, there were. And what you see below was one of them. It’s absolutely stunning.

With renewed talk of the need for a companion span, I thought it was a timely find.
