The coolest Buffalo thing I ever did on a 4th of July…Goo Goo Dolls in Niagara Square

It’s hard to believe that the 13th anniversary of the Goo Goo Dolls playing live in front of Buffalo’s city hall is almost here. The weather was crazy. There were storms rolling in-and-out of Buffalo for most of the day. It was hot and humid.

When the band first took the stage, the weather was fine. But after a few songs in, it started to pour again. The show was put on pause for a little while. I didn’t think the they would come back on because the rain was really coming down.

What happened is something that will forever be etched into the list of coolest Buffalo moments ever. Johnny and Robby Goo walked back onto the stage while it was still raining bad and kicked into the song Broadway. The crowd went crazy. I vividly remember Johnny doing what he did when the drum kit was being cleared as the song picked up steam and the drummer joined in. He gave the drummer a cool AF nod. It was special. It was beautiful. It was so Buffalo.

The band completed their set while the rain subsided for the remainder of the show. I remember all of it like it was yesterday. It’s one of the coolest Buffalo moments I have ever been part of. Watch the video. You will get the vibe of that day.

  1. I love me some #GooGooDolls!! No other bands music feels like theirs does. Their sound is uniquely Buffalo. It’s familiar, gritty, inviting and feels like home. I wish I could have been there to witness this awesome moment in the Musical History of Buffalo. Thank you for capturing it and for sharing it with us.
