Anyone who has read my blog over the years knows I have followed the UB Bulls through their less than stellar attempt to establish themselves as a competitive D-1 college football program.  I have literally seen every imaginable brand of bad football since 1999 played at either UB Stadium or on an opponent’s field.  But back a few years ago the UB powers that be decided they needed to drastically change the direction of UB football and infuse a new attitude into program…they did in the form of coach Turner Gil.

Since he has taken over the team, the Bulls have risen from a D-1 joke to contenders in the MAC.

Tonight they beat the Akron Zips in the finally of the “Rubber Bowl” 43-40 in four overtimes on 40 yard field goal and are one win away from wrapping up the MAC East title and a berth in the conference championship game at Ford Field in Detroit on 12/5.  They play at Bowling Green next week.

The Bulls also became bowl eligible tonight with their 6th win and have ensured their first ever .500 season.

Back to the game…it was incredible…college football OT is intense and I was on the edge of my couch when A.J. Principe converted the field goal to win.

Here is the OT winner…
