I was going through some old photos tonight and found this interesting picture from 1976. It is of a neighborhood-wide parade in celebration of the United States’ Bicentennial…my father took the pic from our house on Ashley Street between Mohr and Young Streets. (current day view click here)
This parade made its way throughout the neighborhood.
Those were the days. It seemed like everyone in the neighborhood had fireworks. The police left B-F’s amateur pyrotechnicians alone on the 4th of July. It was truly a sight to behold…fireworks everywhere…street parties and neighborhood picnics.
The morning after was also a blast both literally and figurtively as my friends and I would go out and look for un-used fireworks left by the curb around the neighborhood.
