(hoping to see more moments like this @ UB Stadium from my seat in section 324)
Tonight UB opens the 2009 season with some of these…”?????’s”
UB football finally arrived last year after almost a decade of D-1 awfulness.
This year with the graduated loss of Drew Willy @ QB and unexpected loss of James Starks @ RB it will be interesting to see what the offense does. Sophmore Zach Maynard comes equipped with the tools to be a good QB and he can run…it adds a different dimension to the offense. Brandon Thermilus is going to have to carry the load @ RB…he had an impressive 08 Season with 100 att., 454 yds, 4.5 avg. in a backup role. Five of Buffalo’s six top receivers will return in 2009 led by Naaman Roosevelt who had 104 catches for 1,402 yards and 13 touchdowns. The O-line welcomes three new starters as well.
On D, the Bulls line is has only one returning starter, but the rest of defense is pretty much the same as last year.
What does it all mean? UB should be competitive right from the get go. The spanked UTEP last year in the season opener 42-17.
If the new players filling key roles on both sides of ball deliver, the Bulls should contend again for the MAC championship.
My personal hope is that they do well again and start building a decent local following…last year was big step in that direction.
