Sabres RULE at the half…
I knew the 2009-2010 Sabres would be better. I just didn’t expect to see what I am seeing. At 1/2 way into the season, I think it is about time we start calling these guys legit Stanley Cup contenders. What we have seen from them from the start of the year warrants such thoughts.
Solid goaltending…solid d…solid play from all of their lines…this team may not be the most talented team in the NHL, but they come to play most nights.
I remember something Scotty Bowman said a long time ago about the teams he likes…he would rather have a team with a bunch of players between 15-20 goals than have the scoring come from a few players…looking through the Sabres’ stats, they fit that bill. The big x factor for me this is Miller’s play…he is on pace to have the best season of his career. A lot can be attributed to d playing well, but Miller has been a difference maker all season long. The trademark of a contender is goaltending.
Mike Grier…I wrote http://bfloblog.com a week or so back that his presence on team like the Sabres means a heckuva lot more than it meant to his former team the Sharks.
I know we have another 1/2 of the seaon to go through…anything can happen, but I got a feeling the Sabres are going to continue what we have seen the first 1/2.
Another thing to consider…if Darcy John Regier thinks the Sabres have a shot at the Cup, will he pull the trigger on trade later in the season to help push the team over the top…who knows.
After the victory yesterday over the Habs, Buffalo sits on second place in the conference…three points behind the Devils for first.
Time to get excited? I think so…

Let’s go Buffalo!
Wins in May mean more than wins in January. However, I’m of the belief that it’s not how the W’s are put in the column, but simply that they are. That the Sabres are winning, and providing the City of Buffalo with an actual team to watch and enjoy, is more important for me. That Buffalo STILL cares about the most irrelevant team in sports (Da Bills) makes me cringe. Hockey’s where it’s at right now, Time to believe in the Sabres again.
