In da Buff (Buffalo, New York)

Buffalo’s Oldest Bocce Club Pizza CLOSED

For 53 years, “Bocce’s” has been open at the corner of Clinton and Adams Streets in Buffalo.

My earliest pizza memories are going there with my father to pick up za when our family lived on Smith Street.  Throughout my Byrdlife, their pies have never been a disappointment and set my personal standard for pizza in Buffalo.  Very few places have lived up to that standard.

It has been about a year since I got a pie from there.  At that time and hard for me to acknowledge to myself, I could tell that owner Rudy Sacco couldn’t go on forever.

Then this morning I got this via Facebook:

And just like that, Bocce’s is gone.  I am wishing I went there just one more time.

Say a prayer for Rudy…he, like his za, is a Buffalo legend.

Best pizza on the planet! Whenever I came home to Buffalo, I always tried to get a pie from Bocce’s. I always bragged about Bocce’s pizza to my non-Buffalonian friends. You had to taste it to believe it!
RIP Rudy. Your pizza will never be duplicated!!!

Dino’s Bocce on Bailey is still great..or try Milanos on Englewood in Tonawanda…almost identical to Bocce style pizza.
