Every once in awhile a game comes along like the one tonight…it had everything…fights…scoring…great saves…etc…
Though by definition the hit put on Chris Drury by Chris Neil was legal, it was dirty.
What ensued after the hit will live in Sabres lore for eternity. I like that Drew Stafford immediately went after Neil…I like that Lindy Ruff threw out an entire line of bruisers on the next shift.
The Buffalo Sabres were one third Rochester Amerks tonight and still came away with a win. They took five of six on their home stand…eleven of twelve points. This team continues to prove that it has a lot of heart and is the sum of all its parts.
From NHL.com via the AP…
First, the Sabres got back at the Senators during a wild second-period melee – a brawl that involved all 12 skaters on the ice, including Biron taking on Ottawa goalie Ray Emery.
Then, despite a depleted bench, the Sabres won the game 6-5, when Drew Stafford scored the lone shootout goal Thursday night.
“Emotions were running high. … It didn’t matter who was on the ice, anybody would’ve responded,” said Biron, who was ejected along with Emery and Buffalo tough-guy Andrew Peters. “That was really satisfying. And it’s satisfying to see the way we played after that.”
The experience the kids from Ra Cha Cha are gaining here…especially after a game like tonight…is incredible.
No word on the extent of Drury’s injury, but knowing him, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was back in the lineup when the Sabres take on the Sens Saturday.
Gosh…I love hockey and the Sabres!
