***UPDATED – 9:32am: The online version of the column’s byline is that of Bruce Andriatch. The paper version of the column’s byline is that of Donn Esmonde. My guess is that Esmonde wrote. I will keep my post as is though.***
I just got done reading Bruce Andriatch’s column in today’s Buffalo News.
In it, he lays out scenarios with the ongoing lease negotiations with Erie County and talks about the potential for the Buffalo Bills to leave Western New York.
My love for football and the NFL comes entirely from being a Bills fan. If the Buffalo Bills were ever to leave Buffalo, I would simply stop watching or supporting the NFL. It is as plain as that. The two go hand in hand.
While writing this, I get a knot in my stomach thinking about them leaving. My guess is a lot of people get the same knot when they read columns like Andriatch’s.
There is part of me (the logical part) that thinks it is ridiculous to be emotionally invested in a professional sports franchise worth close to a billion dollars. It is kinda stupid. But what can you do? It is the way it is.
